National Children’s Book Week

Pupils told: “Stick your nose into Reading”

On Wednesday 7th October, the well known author, Stephen Bowkett visited De La Salle. Stephen spent the day with the whole of Year 7 sharing great stories from his book and talking about the kind of things that led him to becoming an author. His stories were very funny especially the ones about, “The Double Dare Gang” and “Allotment Ghost and other adventures”. A Year 7 pupil said, ‘I really liked him because he was really funny and a great writer. The day was a great success and many Year 7 pupils immediately went home and began writing their own books!

Leo Aylen visits De La Salle
On Friday 9th October, all Lower School pupils were treated to wonderful poetry readings from a renowned poet, Leo Aylen. Leo spent one hour with each Year group in Lower School sharing his reading and stories as part of the school’s celebration for National Poetry Day. I thought it was wonderful for all the pupils to see how poetry can be brought to life on stage and performed. The pupils really enjoyed the experience.

De La Salle Readathon
As part of celebrating National Children’s Books Week, all Lower School pupils took part in a Readathon during their English Lessons. I thought we have had a wonderful week of reading during our English lessons. Many pupils were sponsored by friends and family to read so that we could raise money for children’s cancer charities.
