Year 10 Travel and Tourism Trip to Southend – on – sea
22 October 2009
Forty five Year 10 students set out on a lovely sunny day. We visited Old Leigh to record the sights, sounds and smells of a small fishing village. Many thanks to Mr Parkhill, an ex colleague, who allowed us to visit the Heritage Museum. The one up – one down fisherman’s cottage was a revelation – so tiny! Charlie demonstrated how the cockles were unloaded from the boats in the old days. He had to carry a yolk with two heavy baskets across a narrow plank, hard work!
We then visited Southend, to record the main tourist attractions e.g. Adventure Island, Cliffs Pavilion the Kursaal and Sea Life Centre. The day ended with two games of Quazar. This was a fantastic end to a very enjoyable day. Everyone was put in to three teams: Disney Characters, Super Hero’s and Simpson Characters. Mr Crouch asked if anyone had seen the invisible man – the old jokes are the best!
Many thanks to all Year 10 students for being so well behaved and a pleasure to be with, and to Mr Crouch and Mrs O’Connell for helping out during the day.
